Lady Flames soccer honored for greatness

On Feb. 20 the Lee University Lady Flames were inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. The honor was one of many accomplishments the team has achieved this school year, in addition to winning the NAIA national championship last December and seeing team members Jaime Achten and Christiane Christensen named 1st-Team All-Americans.

Joining the Lady Flames in the induction were two other Tennessee collegiate teams: Bethel College men’s soccer team for taking home the NAIA men’s national championship and the University of Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team for capturing the 2008 national championship.

“To me that is so awesome because everyone knew about the University of Tennessee women's basketball team, and to be honored along with them is really special," said junior mid-fielder Molly Hoeweler. "I think that it is a great reward for all the hard work our whole team put into the season and not just the regular season but the off season too.”

This is the first time in school history that a Lee University team has been inducted into the Tennessee Hall of Fame and won a NAIA national championship.

“I feel really accomplished,” said mid-fielder Jenna Achten. “It was one of my goals that I was going to leave Lee with a national championship under my belt.”

The Lady Flames are already beginning conditioning and practice for the 2009-2010 season and hope to bring home another national championship next year.
