Deacon Jones Dining Hall locked its doors and cleared its buffets an hour earlier than it promised students today.
The doors closed at 6 p.m. and remained locked throughout the evening. Students who gathered at the doors were let in by others already dining inside, only to find that the only food remaining was ice cream and cereal.
Sodexo Catering Manager Jamie Shuler stated that the staff had made a mistake by closing early and that food would reappear at some of the empty stations shortly.
The dining hall traditionally closes at 6 p.m. on Sundays and has, in fact, been closed on the final Sunday of spring and fall break in years past. The decision to remain open until 7 p.m. was a special first-time modification for this break.
Today's blunder is reminiscent of the "early opening" fall break incident last semester. The dining hall had promised it would be open the Sunday evening before classes resumed but never opened its doors.
