Jenna Achten scores 'hat trick' in Lee win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Junior Jenna Achten recorded the "hat trick" in leading the Lee women's soccer team to a 6-0 over host Faulkner University on Saturday evening.

The win was the sixth straight by coach Matt Yelton Lady Flames, who are ranked No. 2 nationally by the NAIA. Lee improved to 5-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference action and 12-1 overall. Faulkner is 1-3 in the SSAC and 5-4-1 overall.

Yelton admitted his Lady Flames were sluggish, especially in the first half. It was their third straight road game for his tired team, but the coach noted that Faulkner was a vastly improved soccer club and really defended well in the opening half.

Meg Willette finally broke the scoring ice in the 33rd minute. She tallied on an excellent cross from Chris Christensen. Jamie Achten was also credited with an assist on the play. In the 40th minutes, Linn Christensen posted an unassisted goal to put Lee up 2-0 at the half.

In the second half, Yelton moved sophomore Candice Shelton to forward and she responded with a goal to put the Lady Flames up 3-0. Kristina Chase got the assist. "Candice did a fantastic job," said the Lee coach. "She gave us a nice lift."

The rest of the night belonged to Jenna Achten. Her first goal came on an assist from Samantha Hare. Achten's second tally was helped by Marina Lima's assist and the final score came after an assist from Sandra Kaelin.

The Lady Flames will continue their road adventures on Wednesday, moving to Rome, Ga. for a SSAC contest with Shorter College. They will finally return to the Lee Soccer Field on Oct. 21 for a key conference match-up with Berry College.
